Stand-Alone Models

Red Head laboratory grinding mills are simple, economical and capable of producing small lot dispersions. These grinding mills are easily adapted for operation on a utility drill press with a ½ H.P. drive explosion proof motor and a spindle speed of 2400rpm, or with our CB Mills Laboratory Power Stand. All lab grinding mills have stainless steel contract parts with either cast alloy or nylon agitator discs.

The models in the picture are as follows:

L-1 (1 liter) Water-jacketed for 300 ml samples. This batch model allows you to determine ultimate end point on color, particle size, and probable production rate of formulations.

L-2 (1 liter) Top-feed continuous mill with a 45-mesh screen and no water-jacket. This model allows for quick bracketing of vehicle/pigment loading.

L-3 (2 liter) Same as the L-2 except for increased capacity.

L-3-J (2 liter) Water-jacketed, top-feed continuous grinding mill with a 45-mesh screen. This grinding mill is ideal for short run applications where temperature control is necessary.

Optional screen cover converts your continuous “Red Head” Lab Grinding Mill to a batch grinding mill or to increase product dwell time.

Power Stand Model

“Red Head” L-5-P is a continuous, small media vertical grinding mill. It is an excellent laboratory test unit used to:
• Determine whether your product can be produced in a small media grinding mill.
• Determine the optimum formulation to maximize the efficiency of your “Red Head” Production Grinding Mill.
• Determine production rates that can be expected for your product on larger “Red Head” Small Media Grinding Mills.
• Determine the optimum media size and type to maximize your production efficiency.

Additionally, the L-5-P can be used in your plant for small specialty production batches. This allows you to continue normal production schedules on your larger grinding mills.

The L-5-P “Red Head” Small Media Grinding Mill consists of a power stand, the agitator assembly, the milling vessel, the pump, the pump drive and drive motor. A pre-mix can is also provided for connection to the pump inlet. The L-5-P is provided with a starter that is explosion proof (Class 1, Group D).
